The grassroots Haitian community organization Veye Yo and other human rights activists will hold a rally front of the Torch of Friendship, at NE 3 St and Biscayne Blvd. in Downtown Miami from 6 to 7 PM on Friday evening to protest Haitian President Michel "Sweet Mickey" Martelly's appearance at the United Nations in New York.

President Martelly's regime has repeatedly canceled elections in Haiti and has carried out massive violations of human rights. Most recently the regime has threatened to arrest former President Jean Bertrand Aristide and has arrested a number of activists in his Lavalas Party, creating a climate of repression which has forced a number of progressive political activists to go underground.

The demonstrators will be demanding that the UN end it's support for the Martelly regime and support the release of all Haitian political prisoners and the immediate scheduling of free and fair elections in Haiti with all political parties allowed to participate including the Lavalas Party.
