 Join the Latin American Student Association at SIPA for a brownbag lunch presentation and conversation with Joseph Harold Pierre who will be discussing the unprecedented decision of the Dominican constitutional tribunal to strip citizenship from more than 200,000 Dominicans of Haitian descent and how this has affected and will continue to strain relations between the two countries that share the island of Hispaniola.


Joseph Harold Pierre is an economic and finance researcher at the Dominican Republic Ministry of Finance, Professor of Economics at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCAMAIMA) and of Political Science at the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) in Santo Domingo. His writings are published in newspapers and reviews in Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Spain. He is also the General Coordinator of the organization N'ap Sove Ayiti (NAPSA) which gathers Haitian students and professionals both in Haiti and in the diaspora with the aim of transforming the reality of Haiti. Presently, in Santo Domingo, through NAPSA, he gives professional orientation to Haitian students among other things, and accompanies Haitian workers in training sessions (Human rights, organizations and associations, conflict resolution, etc.). Joseph Harold Pierre studied in Dominican Republic, Mexico and Spain. He holds a B.A. and a M.A. in Economics, a B.A. in Philosophy and Social Sciences and a M.A. in Political Science.
